Creating a budget
Set a budget for a specific category (e.g. Food) or an overall ceiling for all expenses.
- 1 Open Budgets and click New Budget.
- 2 Give it a name (e.g. "February Food") and the limit amount.
- 3 Pick the category or leave blank to cover all expenses.
- 4 Choose the period: monthly, quarterly, or annual.
- 5 Set start and end dates. For an ongoing budget, leave end date blank.
Periods and renewal
Monthly budgets begin on the 1st and renew automatically. Quarterly cover 3 months, annual cover the whole year. You can have multiple simultaneous budgets for different categories.
Spending tracking
Each budget progress bar changes color as you approach the limit: green below 80%, yellow 80–99%, red when over. The calculation sums all expense transactions matching the budget period and category.
Budget alerts
You receive notifications when reaching 80% and 100% of the limit, giving time to adjust before going over. Notifications can be configured in Settings > Notifications.
Tips for using budgets well
Start with 3–5 main categories (food, transport, entertainment, bills, health). Review at month-end: if you stayed well under, perhaps redirect to another category; if you went over, adjust the limit or identify where to cut. The goal is realistic, not punitive.
