Budgets

Budgets define how much you plan to spend in each category per period. EzFin tracks your spending in real time and warns you when you are nearing the limit.

Creating a budget

Set a budget for a specific category (e.g. Food) or an overall ceiling for all expenses.

  1. 1 Open Budgets and click New Budget.
  2. 2 Give it a name (e.g. "February Food") and the limit amount.
  3. 3 Pick the category or leave blank to cover all expenses.
  4. 4 Choose the period: monthly, quarterly, or annual.
  5. 5 Set start and end dates. For an ongoing budget, leave end date blank.

Periods and renewal

Monthly budgets begin on the 1st and renew automatically. Quarterly cover 3 months, annual cover the whole year. You can have multiple simultaneous budgets for different categories.

Spending tracking

Each budget progress bar changes color as you approach the limit: green below 80%, yellow 80–99%, red when over. The calculation sums all expense transactions matching the budget period and category.

Tip: A summary of active budgets shows on the main dashboard — always a quick glance at your financial control.

Budget alerts

You receive notifications when reaching 80% and 100% of the limit, giving time to adjust before going over. Notifications can be configured in Settings > Notifications.

Tips for using budgets well

Start with 3–5 main categories (food, transport, entertainment, bills, health). Review at month-end: if you stayed well under, perhaps redirect to another category; if you went over, adjust the limit or identify where to cut. The goal is realistic, not punitive.
